About Amber

About the Role

Join Amber as a dedicated copywriter to tell the world about our mission and products in an engaging and authentic way. You’ll be one of the first creative leads in the team, focused on driving brand differentiation and business impact through great copy and a unique voice in the energy industry.

We’re looking for a copywriter who is keen to help shape a standout brand through world-class writing. The ideal candidate will be an expert at delivering on multiple projects at once and bringing the brand to life across many different channels and formats. Working closely with all teams at the company, from marketing to product to operations, your capabilities enable you to make people excited about Amber and deliver a remarkable user experience across all interactions. You’ll write everything from in-app copy and push notifications, to web content and lifecycle emails, to brand and performance advertising campaigns, adding helpfulness and delight at every turn.

You’ll be the founding member of our creative team, reporting into our CMO. You’ll collaborate closely with design, product, and operations on cross-functional projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Write compelling copy across all of Amber’s user touch points and formats. This includes short and long form content across website, email, blog, ads and creatives, in-product, and user forms
  • Shepherd our tone of voice guidelines and act as one of the guardians of the brand voice
  • Understand our customers with deep empathy and tailor comms to various segments
  • Translate complex energy industry concepts and regulations into accessible, user-friendly copy and content
  • Take initiative and proactively audit for opportunities to keep all content fresh and aligned
  • Collaborate across marketing, product, ops, and legal on their copy requirements
  • Enable and upskill the company’s frontline teams with writing guidelines
  • Advise internally on campaigns, creative, and content, and collaborate with external agencies
  • Measure and improve the effectiveness of your work with A/B tests and user studies
  • Implement your copy in channels directly where possible, like email, to support launch speed

About You

Key Requirements

  • 3+ years as a copywriter, or related field like content management, creative writing, journalism
  • Strong attention to detail, sharp grammatical skills, and a knack for smart copy
  • Ability to be your own editor and deliver publishable copy end-to-end
  • Ability to explain complex messages in simple, human ways. A natural storyteller
  • Experience connecting to consumers within their cultural context and user mindset
  • Knowledge of copy and digital marketing best practice across ads, email, and mobile-content
  • Ability to work in a variety of channels and formats, always ensuring copy works in-situ
  • Strong project management skills to deliver on multiple pieces of impactful work at once
  • Excellent cross-functional collaboration, working with tech and non-tech teams
  • A self-starter who can thrive in uncertain situations and a fast paced environment
  • A growth mindset and is always willing to learn, as well as test new things
  • Basic email marketing (HTML, email platforms) and SEO skills nice to have
  • A working knowledge of the energy industry a bonus

Benefits

  • Be part of a growing technology startup that will shape the future of renewable energy in AU
  • Exciting coworking location in the CBD
  • Flexible working hours with provision for regular work from home arrangements
  • We offset 100% of your carbon footprint for as long as you work with us (via Nul)
  • Equitable gender neutral parental leave policies
  • An external Employee Assistance Plan for mental health support
  • Competitive salary and equity

This is a full time role based in Melbourne. Due to Covid, we mostly work from home, with one to two days a week catching up in a coworking space in the CBD. We expect to remain Melbourne based but maintain flexibility between the office and working from home.

What we believe a great team looks like

  • We build a brand that customers love. We understand our customers and create a positive connection with them through every interaction. We deliver such surprise and delight that they enjoy telling their friends and family about it.
  • We look beyond growth to customer value. We seek to grow not just via the lowest cost customer but the right customers that will love their Amber experience and greatly benefit from what we have to offer.
  • We are willing to take calculated risks on bold ideas. We seek to do things differently and are willing to try creative ideas if we believe there is significant upside, with a culture where we recognise that not all ideas will succeed.
  • We take a hypothesis driven approach. We listen to our customers and develop hypotheses of actions we can take to improve every aspect of our marketing and run experiments to test if those hypotheses are true.
  • We are data driven. We set up the systems to easily track the performance of each new hypothesis so we can quickly determine whether or not we were right.
  • We seek insight. We seek to disaggregate the data to draw out the insight from an experiment to inform our next hypothesis.
  • We continually learn and improve. We keep track of the experiments we have run and the lessons we have learnt so that we continually improve and never make the same mistake twice.
  • We prioritise the biggest opportunities. We test a variety of channels but quickly cut what isn’t working and double down on what is.
  • We develop a repeatable growth process. We create repeatable channels and scalable programs for growth. We seek to build a growth engine with predictable results and acquisitions costs.
  • We see ourselves as one team and have fun. We work closely with the tech and operations teams to build a delightful product and customer experience. We trust each other. We love coming to work, and interacting with our colleagues and customers. If we spot an opportunity for a joke, or to do something nice for someone, then we take it.
